I provide English tutoring primarily to GCSE, A Level and IB students, but am flexible about working with a range of age groups. My approach to teaching would be to encourage students to think outside the box. Many students studying English Literature tend to restrict their thinking. During lessons, I will be more than happy to look through essays and show them how to improve their essay writing skills. I will also help them develop their ideas and help them write more coherently.
Tests and examinations are, of course, important but good preparation does not lie simply in working test papers. Such an approach will not uncover the cause of a pupil's difficulties. My approach is to try to identify what the child has not grasped, teach it and provide practise before requiring the pupil to finally work through test papers.
