In Portscatho, expect to pay about £10/h for an hour of English Literature tuition.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• Your current level and learning goals (GCSE, A Level, degree, or adult learning)
• The tutor's experience and qualifications
• The duration and frequency of your sessions
• Whether sessions take place in person or via video call

Online sessions are often more affordable and just as effective.

Getting better at English Literature requires more than just reading the texts; you need to engage actively, question what you read, and practise expressing your ideas in writing.

• Read actively, not passively: make notes on character, theme, and technique as you read so that you build up a detailed picture of each text.
• Focus on the writer's choices: always ask why an author made a particular decision and what effect it creates on the reader.
• Write regularly: practise essay writing often, even short paragraphs, to develop your ability to structure an argument clearly.
• Engage with secondary sources: reading critical essays and reviews broadens your perspective and shows you how scholars approach literary questions.
• Review and revise consistently: periodic revision means key quotations, themes, and analytical points stay fresh and accessible.

The right tutor makes the learning process more focused and efficient, so you can build genuine skill and confidence in the subject.
