Find music theory lessons near me in Basildon

Music theory rests on foundational ideas that make everything else click into place.

• Notation and rhythm: Stave reading, note values, and time signatures form the bedrock of musical literacy.
• Pitch and scales: Understanding major and minor scales gives you the vocabulary to analyse any piece of music.
• Chords: Chords are built from scales and show how notes combine to create tension and resolution.
• Musical intervals: An interval is the distance between two notes — recognising them by ear and on paper is a core skill.

With these fundamentals in place, more advanced topics like counterpoint, modulation, and composition become much more approachable.

In Basildon, expect to pay about £25/h for an hour of music theory tuition.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• Your current level (beginner, intermediate, or preparing for ABRSM/Trinity grades)
• The instructor's credentials and track record with graded music exams
• The number of hours booked in advance
• Where the sessions take place

Many tutors offer package discounts for booking multiple lessons.

The 1 3 5 rule is a simple but powerful principle that explains the structure of nearly every chord you'll encounter.

• The root (1): The 1 is the foundation: the note the chord is named after and built upon.
• The third (3): A major third produces a happy sound; a minor third gives a sadder, more introspective quality.
• The top note (5): The fifth adds stability and fullness to the chord without changing its major or minor quality.

Understanding the 1 3 5 rule opens the door to chord construction across any key or instrument.
