I tailor my teaching to the students individual requirements and needs. I can work with the student to understand how it is they learn and what methods are best to help with their memory. However I understand that learning a new skill requires PRACTICE so I like to offer students 5 minutes before their lesson to warm up on their own and revisit the pieces we learned from the week before.
I’ve taught for many years to people of all ages, focusing mainly on learning to read sheet music, sight reading, and improve musical theory knowledge at the same time. I use my own materials to teach beginners but also follow both ABRSM and Trinity exam boards when it comes to exam prep.
My teaching method is friendly but focused. I aim to guide the individuals when needed and challenge them when appropriate. I encourage practise/homework but I believe the main focus should be on staying interested, motivated and challenged.
I focus on music’s ability to express what people feel. During my classes I focus on how every student approaches and feels music to teach how they can express what they want through it. I use different genres and different musical styles, from classical to jazz, to take the student through a musical journey.
I'm a music student myself at degree level and my teaching experience so far has been primarily beginner level and early level students, although my own practical experience does reach to a high level so I am more than happy to tutor students further into their studies as well as beginners.
My teaching methodology varies from pupil to pupil. For beginners I begin with the notes and understanding how the fingers move around the piano. I teach, record in a notebook and then request the pupil consolidates via practise at home.
Each lesson is specifically comprised of - warm ups, scales and exercises where students work on technique, sight reading, theory and ear training to sculpt the pieces that have been uniquely selected for each students according to their ability, interest and skill level.
