The 7-letter rule is a core Russian spelling principle: after г, к, х, ж, ш, щ, and ч, you must write и instead of ы.

Grammatical endings follow this rule strictly.

• When forming plurals after these seven letters, use -и: книга → книги.
• Adjectives: тихий (quiet) ends in -ий, not -ый, because х precedes the ending.
• Spelling trumps sound: write и after ж, ш, щ, ч regardless of pronunciation.

Once you internalise this pattern, Russian spelling feels more logical.

Expect to pay approximately £30/h for Russian tuition in Winchester.

The final cost depends on:

• Student level: complete beginners or advanced conversation practice affect pricing.
• The tutor's experience and qualifications, such as native speakers or certified teachers.
• Session structure: single lessons cost more than packages of ten or twenty hours.
• Where you learn: online tuition, home tuition, or lessons at a language school.

Many tutors offer discounts for booking multiple lessons, which reduces the hourly cost.

The Russian alphabet contains 33 Cyrillic letters: 21 consonants, 10 vowels, and 2 special signs.

Understanding the categories helps memorisation:

• Consonants (21): many resemble English letters (м, т, к) while others are unique (ж, ш, щ, ц).
• 10 vowels: а, у, о, ы, э (hard vowels) and я, ю, ё, и, е (soft vowels). Each hard vowel has a soft counterpart.
• Two modifier signs: the soft sign (ь) adds palatalisation, and the hard sign (ъ) prevents it.

Beginners often confuse letters that look Latin but aren't: Р = r, Н = n, В = v, С = s.

At 5⭐ out of 5, Russian tutors in Winchester consistently impress their students.
