FAQ's
🎷 Is saxophone suitable for adults starting out?
The saxophone has a reputation for being beginner-friendly.
Finger positioning feels natural, even in your first lesson.
The real challenge lies in embouchure—the way you shape your mouth around the mouthpiece.
With consistent practice, you can sound confident in three to six months.
💰 How much will I spend on saxophone lessons in Borehamwood?
In Borehamwood, most saxophone tutors charge around £32/h per session.
Prices vary depending on several factors:
- The student's level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
- The tutor's credentials and background (degree-level musicians, ABRSM examiners, etc.)
- How long and how often you book (weekly, fortnightly, or ad-hoc)
- The lesson format (online via video call, at your home, or at the teacher's studio)
A first lesson at no charge lets you check chemistry and teaching style risk-free.
⚡ Where do most sax students get stuck?
Learning to shape your mouth correctly while managing airflow demands patience and repetition.
- Embouchure: Your lips, jaw, and facial muscles must work together to create a consistent seal.
- Breath control: Running out of air mid-note is a common early frustration.
- Intonation: Beginners often play sharp in the upper register or flat down low.
- Reed care: Proper storage keeps reeds playable longer.
Private lessons let you focus on your specific weak points.
