About James
I am a motivated and reliable A Level maths student with a strong academic background and a genuine passion for helping others succeed in maths. I achieved Grade 9 in GCSE Maths and Grade 9 in GCSE Further Maths, giving me a clear and thorough understanding of the GCSE curriculum and exam requirements.
As a tutor, I am patient, organised, and committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I take pride in being punctual, well-prepared for every lesson, and professional in my communication with both students and parents.
Having recently completed my GCSEs myself, I understand the challenges students face and can explain concepts in a clear, relatable way. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to build their confidence and independence in maths. Moreover, I always aim to tailor sessions to each student’s individual needs.

My tutoring approach and lesson structure
I believe the best way to improve at maths is through clear explanations, strong foundations, and lots of guided practice. As a current A Level maths student, I understand exactly where GCSE students tend to struggle and how to explain concepts in a way that actually makes sense.
I start by identifying what the student already understands and where the gaps are. I then break topics down step-by-step, using simple methods and examples before moving on to exam-style questions. I focus heavily on building confidence, as this is often the key to improving maths results. Lessons are interactive, and students are encouraged to ask questions at any point.

Regular recap to strengthen weaker areas
Calm, supportive teaching with no pressure or judgement
Lesson length
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, which allows enough time to learn new content, practise questions, and review mistakes without feeling rushed. Longer or shorter sessions can be arranged if needed.
