About Andrey
I am a passionate and driven A-Level student at The Perse School Cambridge, deeply invested in the study of biology and its real-world applications. My ambition is to pursue a career in medicine, and I have actively sought opportunities to develop both my scientific knowledge and my ability to support others. I have a strong academic foundation in biology, demonstrated by my success in the Homerton College Biology Challenge (achieving distinction in all questions thus far), as well as in the Biology and Chemistry Olympiads. Beyond the classroom, I am undertaking an in-depth research project on ‘The Therapeutic Role of microRNAs in Glioblastoma’ for the prestigious Rouse Award, allowing me to explore cutting-edge biomedical science. Additionally, my experience at the Francis Crick Institute has given me the opportunity to engage with leading scientists and discuss the critical biological challenges shaping our world today. Alongside my academic pursuits, I am deeply committed to helping others. As Biology Ambassador for my school, I have experience tutoring and mentoring GCSE students to help them build confidence and excel in their studies. I also dedicate my time to Granta Special School, supporting children with special educational needs, and as a ward volunteer at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where I provide companionship and support to patients. My work with Age UK has further strengthened my patient-focused approach, allowing me to connect with people in different circumstances and develop essential communication and empathy skills. Through my experiences in research, competitions, and volunteering, I have developed a holistic understanding of both science and patient care. I aim to bring this same dedication to my tutoring, helping students not just to succeed academically, but to develop a genuine passion for biology.

My teaching revolves around building deep understanding, not just memorising facts. I try to tailor each lesson to the student’s pace, ensuring they grasp key concepts before moving forward, while also challenging them to think critically and apply their knowledge beyond the syllabus. Lessons typically last 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the student’s needs. I have experience tutoring students in support clubs as a Biology Ambassador, where I help GCSE students tackle challenging topics. My recent experience of taking the exams myself gives me a first-hand understanding of effective revision strategies and exam techniques. I also have experience volunteering at a primary school, reinforcing my ability to explain concepts in an engaging and fun way. I offer tutoring for students in Years 8–11 who are preparing for their GCSEs. Having studied the Edexcel specification, I am particularly familiar with this exam board, but I can also adapt my teaching to other specifications as needed.
