About Clare
I’m an experienced Psychology and Sociology teacher with a PhD in Psychology and a strong background in both teaching and applied behavioural science.
I have previously been Head of Psychology and Sociology and have taught students across further and higher education, so I understand both the academic content and what examiners are looking for. I’m comfortable teaching across different specifications, including AQA, OCR and Baccalaureate programmes.
Alongside teaching, I now work as a behavioural scientist, using psychology in real-world research and consultancy. This means I can bring the subject to life with practical examples rather than teaching it purely from a textbook.
I’m friendly, supportive and straightforward in my teaching style. I particularly enjoy helping students who understand the material but struggle to turn that knowledge into strong exam answers, as well as students who have lost confidence or feel overwhelmed by the amount they need to learn.

My approach to tutoring is always centred on the individual student. I start by understanding where they are now — their strengths, the areas they find more challenging, their confidence and what they want to achieve — and then tailor my teaching accordingly.
I use a wide range of teaching methods, adapting sessions to suit different learning styles rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. I focus not only on developing subject knowledge, but also on helping students understand how to apply that knowledge effectively in essays, assessments and examinations.
I have extensive experience teaching Psychology and Sociology and have previously been Head of Psychology and Sociology, as well as teaching in further and higher education. I am familiar with a range of specifications and assessment approaches, including OCR, AQA and Baccalaureate programmes.
My aim is to make complex ideas clear, build confidence and help students become increasingly independent learners. I want students to leave a session understanding not just what the answer is, but how to think their way towards it.
