About Daniel
I’m an experienced educator, academic leader, and writing tutor with over 15 years’ experience supporting students across New Zealand, the UK, Asia, and the Middle East.
I specialize in helping gifted and high-achieving students develop their ideas, structure their writing, and communicate more clearly and confidently. I enjoy working with students who want to be challenged, refine their thinking, and produce work that is thoughtful, well-organized, and academically strong.
I also support university students and adult learners with academic writing, dissertation planning, literature reviews, argument development, editing, and proofreading. My approach is structured and practical. I help students clarify what they are trying to say, organize their ideas, improve the flow of their writing, and strengthen their academic voice.
Alongside academic writing, I can support CVs, cover letters, personal statements, and job or university applications. I have experience helping people present their skills and experience clearly, professionally, and in a way that feels authentic rather than generic.
I hold a Master’s in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching with Distinction and am currently completing further postgraduate research focused on education policy and inclusion in New Zealand. I have also worked as a Senior Teacher, Director of Studies, IELTS Exam Centre Manager, and Head of Program Delivery.
My sessions are calm, focused, and tailored to the individual. I aim to help students build confidence, think more clearly, and leave each lesson with practical improvements they can use straight away.

Hi, I’m Daniel. I’m an experienced English language teacher and academic leader with over 15 years’ experience teaching learners from kindergarten age through to adults in New Zealand, the UK, South Korea, Thailand, China, and the UAE.
My lessons are practical, supportive, and tailored to the learner’s goals. I focus on building confidence as well as accuracy, so students feel able to use English actively rather than just study rules. I use a communicative approach, supported by clear language input, correction, guided practice, and plenty of speaking. Where useful, I also include academic skills, writing support, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary development, and exam strategies.
I have taught General English, Business English, Academic English, Aviation English, university pathway programs, young learners, teenagers, and exam preparation. I have experience preparing students for major English language exams including IELTS, Cambridge English exams, Pearson, TOEFL, TOEIC, and Trinity-style assessments. I was also IELTS Exam Centre Manager while working at EF Auckland.
A typical lesson is 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be useful for exam preparation, writing support, or intensive study. I work with learners of different ages and levels, from beginners through to advanced students, and I am comfortable adapting lessons for school students, university students, professionals, migrants, and adult learners.
I completed my CELTA in 2011 and hold a Master’s in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching with Distinction. I have also worked as a Senior Teacher, Director of Studies, and Head of Program Delivery, so I bring both classroom experience and a strong understanding of curriculum, assessment, learner support, and academic quality.
My aim is to make lessons clear, engaging, and useful. I want students to leave each session with practical language they can use, a better understanding of how English works, and more confidence in their ability to communicate.
