I cannot stress enough how impactful Mark has been on my life. This world is filled with distractions and it is easy to get into a pointless, vain, monotonous routine. Work, sleep, work ,sleep. I grew up with a love for reading, but had lost it in high school. I came to resent learning actually as it has become politicized to a toxic degree. Mark instilled in me values from ancient times. He stressed the importance of logic, reasoning and logic. He showed me the importance of, first, outlining definitions with your interlocutors prior to a debate. He helped me regain my love of reading and pushed me into an advanced stage. I went from reading Lord of the Rings to Plato! Fun, casual reading to books that will have an amazing impact on my life and those around me. I will always be in debt to Mark and I will never forget him. I am on a journey to become a classicist so I can share this magic with others, following in Marks footsteps. What an amazing individual. One in a million.
You may not remember everything someone says, but you always remember how they made you feel. I’ll never forget how valued, seen, and understood Professor McIntire made me feel. I had Mark for a Critical Thinking and Writing class in junior college. He’s the best teacher I ever had.
The worst thing is a boring teacher, and Mark is the furthest thing from it. He was engaging, entertaining, and thought-provoking, all class, every class. As quick-witted and funny as they come.
He has lead a rich, fascinating life outside of his teaching career, which allows him to bring real-world wisdom and application to every discussion.
I didn’t know of any student who didn’t like him. His authenticity and openness are immediately apparent, putting you at ease, and ready to learn. You know you’re in good hands.
Everything you’d want in an a teacher, mentor, and friend.Mark Mctire is an exceptional educator and excellent thinker. We met a few years back when we co-founded an education advocacy group called “Fair Edication Santa Barbara” and I was honored to get to know Mark as a stoic, scholar and friend. Mark’s style is unique and engaging, he pulls the students into his orbit ala Robin Williams in “Dead Poet’s Society” and is beloved by many of the students he has taught at Santa Barbara City College. Mark McIntire is the type of intellect and academic you will not forget. He is not short on personality, wit or flair. I recommend Mark fully, enthusiastically and without reservation.
I've known professor McIntire for nearly a decade and read all of his books. He's been a longtime mentor and personal friend inside and outside the classroom. If you want to learn the basics of logic and basic philosophical concepts, there is no better teacher on the planet. Unlike other teachers, the professor constantly is reading and learning.
He preaches and practices the life-long learning principle of learning how to learn on his own. I cannot recommend him enough. Aside from all that, he's a really fun guy with a deep sense of integrity, love for his craft, and respect for his students.View more recommendations
