Philosophy is a field that is very broad, however it is connected, and once you see this interconnectedness, everything becomes simple, it is this that I carefully and cheerfully present to my student.
I mostly start my classes by introducing my student to the background that gave rise to whatever philosophy well be discussing and work this evening will become simple.
For starters, I begin with:
Definition
Subject matter
Brief History
Branches:
-Metaphysics
-Ethics
-Epistemology
-Aesthetics
-Logic
After this, I break philosophy down into historical periods:
-Ancient
-Medieval
-Modern
- post modern
-contemporary.
Afterwards I discuss
-Oriental philosophy and African philosophy.
At this stage one is expected to have a good grasp of philosophy, so I move into more sophisticated courses like:
-philosophy of Religion
-Philosophy of language
-Analytic philosophy
-Philosophy of Science
-Existentialism
-philosophy of the mind
-phenomenology.
Lastly,i take my students to the most interesting class of all philosophy by Nigerian philosophers.
However depending on the students preference some courses can be given more attention as well as skipped if the student already has a good knowledge of such topics.
