About Jiahao
Hello! My name is Jiahao Li, and I am an incoming M.S. student in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at UCLA. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from UC Irvine with a B.S. in Earth System Science.
My academic and research experiences span climate science, atmospheric science, oceanography, mathematics, physics, and scientific programming. I have conducted research under faculty mentors from UC Irvine, UC Berkeley, MIT, and Columbia University, with projects focused on climate dynamics, marine heatwaves, paleoclimate reconstruction, hydroclimate variability, and environmental data analysis. I have also contributed to scientific publications and conference presentations, including research presented at the AGU Fall Meeting.
In Summer 2025, I was selected as a research intern in the MIT Summer Research Program (MSRP), where I investigated coastal carbon cycling and ocean acidification using statistical and machine-learning approaches. This experience strengthened my quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills while providing opportunities to collaborate with researchers from diverse scientific backgrounds.
In addition to research, I have teaching experience as a Learning Assistant for ESS 23: Air Pollution at UC Irvine. In this role, I attended lectures, led discussion sessions, answered student questions, and helped students develop a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and quantitative problem-solving techniques.

My teaching approach is highly interactive and focused on building confidence. Rather than simply lecturing, I work side-by-side with students to solve problems together, demonstrate example questions, and guide them through the thought process behind each solution.
I believe that success comes not only from understanding concepts but also from developing effective study habits. In addition to subject-specific tutoring, I help students create realistic study plans, identify common mistakes through error logs, and develop strategies for exams and homework. My goal is to help students become independent learners who can approach challenging problems with confidence.
Lessons are tailored to each student's needs, whether they are preparing for AP exams, improving course performance, completing assignments, or strengthening their understanding of STEM subjects.
