About Xinyi
I’m a bilingual Mandarin–English tutor with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Chinese Translation and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. I aim to create a supportive learning environment where students feel both encouraged and challenged. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to strengthen your academic or professional Mandarin, I tailor each lesson to your goals, pace, and learning style. First, I’ll guide you through a short evaluation to understand your current level and learning goals. Based on that, we’ll design a personalized class structure together. My teaching style is topical and culturally sensitive. Each lesson focuses on a specific daily or academic theme, and we’ll work on pronunciation, reading, vocabulary, and writing within that topic. I also integrate Chinese culture throughout the lessons to help you immerse yourself in the language and understand the context behind expressions and traditions. This approach builds confidence for real-life communication while strengthening core language skills. I’ll also share resources and recommendations for studying outside of class, so you can make steady progress both during and between lessons. Lessons are usually 60 minutes, but I can adjust the length depending on your goals and schedule. My classes are suitable for all levels—from complete beginners to advanced speakers—and for learners of all ages who want to improve daily communication, academic Chinese, cultural understanding, or professional language skills. -Xinyi
