About Peter
Welcome! I’m Peter L Barbe, a street photographer with a deep passion for capturing the soul of city life through the lens. Based in Brighton, I specialise in analogue and digital street photography, using a style inspired by legendary street photographer Garry Winogrand. I believe that photography is more than just taking pictures—it’s about immersing yourself in real-life moments, creating images that tell unique stories, and truly connecting with the world around you.
My approach to photography is pragmatic and hands-on, and I bring this approach to my lessons. I offer immersive, practical street photography courses where you’ll learn by doing. Together, we’ll walk the streets of Brighton, working in real-time and real-life settings to help you master the art of observation, composition, and technical skill.
In my lessons, I focus on giving you a thorough understanding of your camera as a tool—teaching you to change settings instinctively, so nothing distracts from the moment. We’ll explore manual mode in a straightforward way, ensuring you’re comfortable and confident handling your camera without overthinking technicalities. My courses also cover the ethical, legal, and respectful practices of street photography, empowering you to approach your subjects with confidence and integrity.
