About Darrilyn
Kia ora! I’m Darrilyn, a friendly, organized tutor who helps students feel calm, confident, and exam-ready. I hold First-Class Honors in Psychology (University of Auckland), and I’m a current Master of Teaching and Learning (Primary) student at the University of Waikato. I’ve been a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Statistics at UoA and have 5+ years’ tutoring across Math / Science / Social Science. My lessons are structured and supportive—I do → We do → You do—with clear worked examples, scaffolded practice, and feedback linked to NCEA Achievement/Merit/Excellence criteria. I bring plenty of past-paper questions and concise notes so you know exactly what markers look for. Students tell me they appreciate my patience, tidy explanations, and steady pace. I teach with an “I do – We do – You do” structure: brief concept recap → guided worked examples → independent exam-style practice. I use diagnostic questions to find gaps, retrieval practice to lock in core skills, and scaffolded problems that step up from Achievement → Merit → Excellence. Explanations are visual (dual-coding, graphs/diagrams), and I model how to show working to NCEA marking schedules. Lesson length: Standard sessions are 60 or 90 minutes (most students do 60). Who the lessons are for: - Primary school kids; NCEA Math & Science, incl. Algebra, Graphs, Number, Calculus, Probability/Statistics, and Biology (cells, genetics, ecology). - Typical ages Year 1–10; one-to-one or small groups (2–4). - Sessions available online or in person (Hamilton / Auckland).
