About Isla
With over five years of experience as a piano tutor, I have developed a deep passion for guiding students on their musical journeys. My own love for music began at a young age, and it has grown into a lifelong commitment to both performing and teaching. I have had the privilege of studying with esteemed instructors and performing in various settings, from intimate recitals to larger concert venues. This diverse background has enriched my understanding of different musical genres and techniques, which I now pass on to my students.

In my piano lessons, I strive to create an inspiring and supportive environment where students of all levels can thrive. Each lesson begins with a warm-up to ensure students are physically and mentally prepared for practice. We then review previous material to reinforce learning and identify areas that may need additional attention. This methodical approach helps build a strong foundation and fosters a sense of accomplishment.
A key component of my teaching is customization. I tailor each lesson to the student's individual goals and musical interests, whether they aim to master classical pieces, explore the rhythms of jazz and funk, or dive into the emotive world of soul and R&B. By focusing on genres that resonate with the student, I keep the learning process engaging and relevant. Additionally, I introduce new techniques and concepts progressively, ensuring that each step is manageable and builds on prior knowledge.
I emphasize not only technical proficiency but also musical expression. Through exercises and repertoire, I teach students to convey emotion and character in their playing. This involves dynamic control, phrasing, and articulation, as well as an understanding of the historical and cultural context of the music.
