About Samuel
I am a dual degree student of engineering and mathematics, and have tutored in algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, differential equations, physics, and chemistry for three years. My lesson plans rely heavily on understanding of the basics of the course material, so I would evaluate the student's grasp of the foundations of the subject before moving to the target material. I believe that without the understanding of the foundations, it is much more difficult, if not impossible, to learn further. I would do a quick quiz of the basics of the material to the student at the beginning of the session. I would watch for accuracy as well as the quality of the solving process. Based on the results of the quiz at the beginning, I would determine the speed of the session and which concepts won't need repeating. If the student did poorly on the basics, I would spend much of the first session refreshing the student on the basic material before advancing. This method of teaching works for middle school, high school, and university students, but there is the requirement that the student is willing to learn.
