About Ahlbie
I'm currently a maths student at Pomona College, a US college. I was born and raised in Cornwall, where I currently am living. I have A-Levels in Maths and Further Maths, and I tutor alongside my studies, both in the UK and US. I started tutoring in GCSE Maths at my sixth form at the age of 17 after school, and shortly after that I begun tutoring a range of subjects while at college in the US. I've had this position for 2 years now, which involves teaching and mentoring high school students from low-income backgrounds to prepare them for college and exams.
The students have found me very approachable and relatable, since I was once in their position. They always seem to look forward to the lessons and some have even made "thank you" cards for me, which was lovely. I hope I can continue to help people out both here and in the US.

I mostly try to explain concepts intuitively - I relate the idea to something that the student may already understand. For example, if a student is trying to understand an equation, I'll try to get them to think about why that equation is the way it is. This exercise often helps my students to remember the equation in the first place, as well as improving their general understanding which helps them when they delve deeper into the subject material.
If a student is really having trouble understanding something, I like to introduce very simplified examples, often relating to real life problems. This way, the student can focus on the fundamentals of what they're learning, then tackle more complex problems once they have mastered the basic idea.
Most importantly, I think that being friendly and relaxed is vital to effective learning. The point of tutoring, in my opinion, is that you're talking to a fellow human being. If a tutor someone hired was just like a textbook, there'd be no point in having a tutor!
