I mostly try to explain concepts intuitively - I relate the idea to something that the student may already understand. For example, if a student is trying to understand an equation, I'll try to get them to think about why that equation is the way it is.
I have working in primary schools all my teaching career and am conversant in numerous techniques aimed at getting the important understanding across to pupils. I feel if the learning can be an enjoyable experience that grips the pupil more tends to be remembered. I employ humour and as many "hands on" activities as possible in my teaching and tailor my teaching to the needs of the individual.
I base my teaching method upon introducing practical application to the mathematical method I introduce and trying to help my students learn to enjoy solving problems. "I'll never use this in 'real life'..." and "I just don't get it..." are the two phrases I hear most and these are the opinions that I try to reverse by simply trying to make it fun. I love mathematics and have devoted my life to it.
I make learning fun by using a variety of resources including practical manipulative, diagrams, worksheets, past papers, websites and apps
I have a passion for mathematics and technology which lead me to pursue a degree in Computing. I tutor both online via Skype. I aim to work with students to improve their confidence and understanding of the fundamental principles of maths. I am patient and enthusiastic and I believe there are no stupid questions! I will never get cross or impatient because I know that and that calm happy students are by far the best learners.

I find the best way to learn content will be through understanding principles and them applying them to questions because, ultimately, you will be taking an exam. By practicing questions and finding out how the examiner wants you to answer questions, i.e using the marking criteria, you will achieve much greater marks in your exam and get a better grade.
A 3rd year Maths student currently on track to achieve a 1st class and to become a maths teacher in secondary school. Student can tell me what they struggle with in maths, and I can help them break that difficulty down. I'm very patient and understand how hard maths can be, and all I want to do is to help people try their best and to achieve what you want.
