About Barenda
I’m a mathematics teacher with over 40 years of experience, and I still teach part-time because I truly love helping students understand and enjoy maths. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing that moment when a concept clicks and a student’s confidence and curiosity light up—that’s what keeps me passionate about teaching.
Outside the classroom, I’m an avid traveller, museum-goer, and lover of books and films. I also enjoy collecting pencils from the places I visit—each one tells its own little story. When I’m not teaching or exploring, you’ll often find me building Lego, which is a fun way to blend creativity, logic, and patience.
I look forward to helping students not just succeed in maths, but also enjoy the process of learning and discovering new ways to think.

With over 40 years of experience as a Mathematics teacher, I offer expert tuition built on a deep understanding of how students learn best. My approach focuses on teaching for true understanding — ensuring that students fully grasp key concepts before moving on. Learning is reinforced through structured practice and regular recall, enabling students to retain knowledge and apply it confidently to more complex problem-solving.
As a current GCSE Mathematics examiner for both Higher and Foundation tiers, I have detailed knowledge of exam standards, marking criteria, and common student mistakes. This insider understanding allows me to prepare students effectively, helping them maximise marks and approach exams with confidence.
Lessons are 60 minutes long and are carefully structured to suit each student’s needs. I teach:

GCSE Mathematics – Foundation
GCSE Mathematics – Higher
Whether a student needs to build confidence and strengthen core skills or is aiming for the highest grades, I provide clear, supportive, and focused tuition designed to achieve measurable progress and exam success.
