About Shweta
Subject Specialisations: Film (Production and Research), English (A-Level and IELTS), Hindi
A silver medalist from the School of Media and Cultural Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (SMCS, TISS), Mumbai, my tryst with independent documentary film started with Accsex. This film, funded by the Public Service Broadcasting Trust and national channel Doordarshan, is a warm and intimate exploration of notions of beauty, body, sexuality
and disability and was awarded Special Mention at the 61 st Indian National Film Awards (2014). I have also made two documentaries titled A Slice of Memory and Steeped and Stirred, which explore a variety of themes from to gender and culture to memory and culinary history.
I have published research papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and
presented my work at international conferences. My films have travelled across film festivals in India and abroad, been used for research and advocacy.
Currently pursuing in a Ph.D. in Film at the University of Reading, I am now based in Edinburgh. As a media professional I have been invited to conduct media workshops with children, adolescents and undergraduate students. I have also written and curated research content for online encyclopaedias and research projects alike, with a focus on sociology, anthropology and culture. I am interactive and activity-based in my approach, and am open to tailoring my tutoring to individual students' needs.
