About Jay
I am a medical school graduate who is down to Earth but I may share some of the same hobbies you have! I still love to play video games in my free time and I'm very into sports - particularly playing basketball, pickleball, and doing karate. I'm a massive NBA fan too! I know when it's time to be serious or when it's time to joke around and take a break too. Your lessons with me will help you understand the subject troubling you but without being a total bore! You can come to with me any specific issues and I'll do my best to help get you through that problem in a way that's best for you.

I take a personalized approach with my tutees and adjust the structure of my lessons to what would be most conducive to that student's particular learning behavior. Some students benefit from a very tight lesson where the focus is entirely on the subject matter and others may have some attention deficits or get burnt out; in the latter cases breaking up the tutoring session with a small break provides more benefits and learnings than forcing my way through.
What sets me apart is my familiarity teaching younger children - particularly ages 6-14. Through those past tutoring experiences I've become very acquainted with how to communicate with younger students and being able to establish an environment where they are comfortable with me and thus more receptive to what I have to teach. Furthermore, my time serving in the psychology and medicine wards in the hospital after graduating medical school only helped to further my rapport with children and teenagers as I saw and communicated with many of them in the role of patients. Learning to talk to children when they are feeling unwell unlocks a lot of patience and the ability to coax information or feelings out - which matters in tutoring because if the student is not comfortable they will not learn as efficiently.
My lessons are in the subject of Math which ranges from the basics of operations, geometry, fractions to algebra or even to more advanced subjects. Before I even finished high school I had completed courses past the 100 level in college; having completed AP Calculus BC in my 11th grade and Multivariable Calculus (a second year college course) while in my senior year.
