I am fascinated by Church misericords and their carvings insofar as they reflect local culture and conventions of the time. I live behind St Laurence's Church here in Ludlow and my masterclass would be taught from my home and on site at the Church chancel.

Course setup
My students have loved learning about misericords and the rich content they unfold within a genre of sacred art that is often not seen. Learn why there were mythical monsters and lewd scenes of secular life permitted to be a most sacred part of the Church. Who carved them? Was the subject matter patronised? What do they mean? Who saw them? Why were they there?
