I’m Bruce Stewart—former principal, English teacher, and curriculum designer—who has helped students turn stress into structure and clear, confident writing. My sessions start on time, follow a clear plan, and end with next steps you can use immediately. I teach with proven methods (mentor texts, modeling, concise feedback) and use AI ethically as a learning aid, never a shortcut. Families and teachers value my regular progress updates and collaborative approach. You’ll always know what we’re working on, why it matters, and how to improve. Expect kindness, high expectations, and results you can feel.

I’m Bruce Stewart, an English tutor who combines empathy, clear explanations, and steady follow-through to help students write with purpose and read with power.

Teaching method & techniques: I start with a brief diagnostic and your live assignments, then build a personalized plan. I teach through think-aloud modeling, sentence-combining, mentor texts, and color-coded annotation. We practice retrieval (quick recall drills), micro-writing (100–150 word bursts), and revise with targeted rubrics. I also coach executive-function skills—planning, breaking tasks into steps, and finishing on time. Generative AI is used ethically as a brainstorming and revision aid, never as a shortcut.

A typical 60-minute lesson: 1) Two-minute check-in and goal set. 2) Warm-up skill (thesis, evidence, syntax, or grammar). 3) Mini-lesson with a model paragraph. 4) Guided practice on your current assignment (we co-write a paragraph). 5) Independent application while I circulate feedback. 6) Quick reflection and a simple action plan with due dates. You leave with a clean outline, a next paragraph to draft, and a checklist for revision. We track growth week to week.

What sets me apart: I’ve served as a principal, English teacher, curriculum designer, and author of complete courses aligned to state standards. I bring a “warm-demander” stance—caring relationships plus high expectations—so you feel supported and challenged. My feedback is concrete, fast, and specific; my systems are predictable and kind. Families appreciate my regular progress notes and collaboration with classroom teachers.

Who the lessons are for: Middle and high school students (Grades 6–12), including Honors, AP Lang/Lit, IB, and first-year college writers who want a boost. I’m effective with reluctant writers, English learners, and neuro-diverse students (ADHD, dyslexia). Focus areas include close reading, literary analysis, research and citation (MLA/APA), SAT/ACT reading & writing, and building a confident, authentic voice.

Let’s turn stress into structure—and structure into strong results.
