About Kaleb

Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science, Monash University, double major in Physics and Applied Mathematics
- Bachelor of Science (Honours), Monash University, honours degree in Applied Mathematics

Teaching experience:
- I have been a personal tutor for 3 years and have had around 10 or so different students through Tutor2You, Superprof, and personal contacts. During this time, I have seen many of my students' average grades increase from around 60-70% to 80-90%, with one exceptional individual seeing such drastic improvements as going from almost failing at 50% to achieving test scores above 90%.
- I have spent 3 semesters teaching 1st year mathematics in a classroom setting at Monash university, rated 5/5 by 36/41 students, 4/5 by the rest.
- I have also spent 3 months teaching English, Maths, and Physics full time to high school students in Italy (video below).
- Lastly, I have spent 2 years teaching taekwondo as a 2nd Dan black belt.

Apart from teaching, I've worked for a year as a data scientist, and I'm now seeking to pursue a PhD in Bioinformatics. I also do jiu-jitsu regularly and run a DnD campaign on weekends :).

My lessons are for students of any level of expertise - I can teach you whether you are struggling to understand the concepts or whether you are a high achiever with a great interest in physics and mathematics.  I can travel to your home, we can meet in a library, or we can conduct the lesson online via Zoom, whichever is preferred.

The first lesson is typically spent getting to know the student, their current level of knowledge, their learning goals, what they want out of this arrangement, etc. After that, students can come prepared with questions or topics they are unsure about, we can go through homework questions together, I can prepare problems of my own in a way that helps us identify gaps in the student's knowledge - whichever is preferred on any given day.

I will be available online to answer any questions the students may have outside of lessons.  Simply send me a text or email and I will answer as soon as possible! :)

Teaching style:

When I teach, I place a lot of emphasis on getting the student to think through and articulate the solutions to problems themselves - I can explain things clearly and concisely to them, but until they can explain it themselves, they haven't truly understood the topic.  Physics and Mathematics in particular require this sort of deep understanding - you can't get by simply regurgitating facts that you've memorised.  My teaching style takes this into account by nudging the students towards finding the answer themselves by asking them leading questions.

Another thing I try to do in my lessons is to make sure that the student understands why they are learning what they are learning.  Unfortunately in my experience high school and university typically don't do a good job of this, so I try my best to understand and explain how the knowledge students are being taught all fits together, how it can be used in life and in the workplace, and how that work makes life better for humanity as a whole. Bigger picture stuff aside, I also try to show students the genuinely fascinating parts of the subjects they learn - fractals, Godel's theorem, the halting problem, etc.
