Motivated and engaging Cambridge graduate with two years of physics and maths tutoring experience. Master’s degrees in both Physics and Artificial Intelligence.

Methodology

I love problem-solving. Give me a riddle, a conundrum, or a brain teaser and you’ll find me happily entertained for hours. I specialised in physics in my academic studies because of my profound interest in how problem-solving skills can be used to better understand the universe we inhabit. And if there is one thing I love more than doing the problem solving, it's explaining how the problem-solving works to the people who care.

I tailor every session based on the particular needs of the student, whether it be a topic that remains unclear or a problem that proves challenging to solve. I put an emphasis on teaching how to truly understand the material so that even the most challenging exam questions start to seem straightforward.

Where appropriate, I approach the subject matter from different angles and work through example problems of increasing complexity, so that the student gains a complete understanding of the material. If a brief detour away from the syllabus is insightful then I will not shy away from doing so, because ultimately I firmly believe that the best academic gains are made when the student sees the deeper structure behind the syllabus.

Most academic progress happens backstage when a student has time to reflect on what they’ve just learnt. That’s why I provide my students with plenty of topic-specific learning resources and example questions so that they can cement an understanding of challenging concepts.

My sessions are delivered through the BitPaper collaborative whiteboard: an online tool that has e-inking, PDF, image, and HD video and audio support. Students just need to create a free account before starting.

Experience

Working in interdisciplinary projects in international research laboratories, I have developed a broad scientific remit, spanning the fields of chemistry, earth science, materials science, biology and computer science. It is from this unique vantage point that I am able to put a student’s syllabus in a wider context and motivate their learning.

I understand that applying to the top academic institutions can be stressful, particularly when they require flawless grades and extra rounds of tests and interviews. I know because I’ve been there! Having spent the past four years at a top institution, working alongside my former interviewers, I’ve gained a unique insight into this application process. I can now guide students at every stage of the process so that they are well-prepared and confident!

And through my passion for teaching challenging concepts, I have developed over 400 hours of tutoring experience, each with highly satisfied students that went on to achieve the top grades. I gladly share previous reviews with any potential students.

PLACEMENT EXPERIENCE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Three-month computational biophysics internship at Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico. My major research contribution was in developing software, programmed in Python, which automatically detected and corrected atom clashes in very large (billion-atom) models of DNA. The corrected atomic model was then used for the largest molecular dynamics simulations of DNA to date.

Ten-week experimental/computational research internship at Department of Applied Mathematical and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP), University of Cambridge: testing a theoretical model of liquid-on-liquid impact dynamics.

ADDITIONAL
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personal projects: Developing Language Lens, a smartphone application that leverages natural language processing tools to assist learners of morphologically rich languages, particularly Russian.
Languages: Spanish (C1), Portuguese (B2), Italian (B2), Russian (B2).

Dominic is an excellent and inspiring tutor who will definitely be able to lead you on the path to success. After having been tutored by him for more than a year, I immensely improved in my studies thanks to his ability to help push myself as well as being able to really enjoy each and every one of his lessons. He is very hardworking and puts a lot of effort into each of his lessons to ensure that I fully understand something. His brilliant intellect and passion to teach and share his knowledge really makes him stand out from any other tutor I have had.

Dominic helped Kyle a great deal by quickly identifying his areas of need and tailoring his teaching around his learning style. He did not only teach, but he motivated and inspired Kyle as well. Thanks to him, he really enjoyed learning and completed challenging A-level studies!

Dominic helped me a lot with my Physics at A Level and despite the limitations of COVID he has helped me to better understand the subject and it’s content to a great extent.

All in all a great teacher!
