About Jonathan
I have a degree in Music from Durham University and have recently stepped down from teaching full-time to focus on my tutoring and music lessons. I trained as an orchestral percussionist, learning a range of techniques, from the basic (triangle!) to the more complicated (jazz vibraphone with 4 sticks!). Alongside this, I have played piano as an accompanist to choirs and groups, played drums in bands and taught both Maths and Music in schools.

When teaching piano or keyboard, I tend to focus equally on skills and pieces. From beginner players of any age, it is important to get used to the technique of playing with both hands, but it is also vital that they are learning pieces that they can demonstrate to family and friends. For intermediate/more advanced players, technical skills are crucial to developing stamina and overcoming difficult elements in performing. Where possible, I try to link up with my student's school or community groups to create opportunities for them to perform in front of others (though this is not compulsory!).

Details
I do not make an additional charge for travelling to your home, but expect students/parents to be flexible in the length of the sessions to make it worth my while. This is negotiable and I am happy to charge for travel instead if this is preferred.
My charge of £50ph is for beginner tuition at peak times. I may be open to negotiating this price downwards for younger students or for tutoring during the day. I also offer benefits for 'word of mouth' referrals (e.g. additional free lesson/discount to referrer).
