I prefer practical teaching within music as it is a practical subject and I believe musical ideas and concepts are best explained through actions. I like to keep my lessons entertaining as possible to help the students enjoy the subject.
I am currently a post graduate music student studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I have over two years experience teaching school children of all ages. I have given practical, aural and theory tuition individually, in small and large groups.
Prices may be less for younger students and may be cheaper if willing to participate in group lessons. Please enquire with any queries regarding this,

2:1 in BA Music and Sound Design from Queen’s University Belfast
About Me : I am a keen trumpet player who is currently studying at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I completed my undergraduate degree in Music and Sound Design at Queen’s University in July 2020. Whilst at Queen’s I studied contemporary music, electroacoustic composition and was involved in live sound and recording events. I am a previous member of the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra, Concert Band and Symphonic Brass. I also was part of the Ulster Youth Orchestra on their 25th Anniversary year and tour to Vienna and Bratislava. I am a current member of the Ulster Youth Jazz Orchestra, Queens University Big Band and symphony orchestra. I play at the Ulster University Graduations every year as part of a professional brass ensemble, Dalriada Brass. I also enjoy playing sports including golf and football. I was the Junior Captain of Shandon Park Golf Club in 2016. I am a member of Orangefield Presbyterian Church and am involved in the live sound and recording team.
Experience: From October 2017 to May 2018, I worked as part of the team in the Coffee Yard in Holywood as a waiter. I also work full time in the summer as part of my dad’s gardening services business. I am currently on work placement within the City of Belfast School of Music as a tutor with various groups on a Saturday morning and in Holy Trinity Primary and Strandtown Primary on a Monday. As a musician, I have played in pit bands for shows for various companies such as Newcastle Glees, BSPA, Ravara Production, Grand Opera House and many more. I spent two school terms teaching 17 pupils brass instruments at Inchmarlo Primary.
Skills and Qualities : As a musician I have developed the skill of working in a team. You are often part of a large group of performers who have to play together and therefore it is essential to recognise this. Working as part of the staff team in the Coffee Yard made me realise the importance of being in a team and working with others as you had to be able to distribute roles and work in the most efficient manner. Working independently for the gardening business this year, I have had to deal with many customers face to face and deal with their requests to ensure customer satisfaction at all times. Whether it be changing the way a job is being done or just giving ideas of what I think is best for the customer, I have had to adapt to many situations with different types of customers. Time management is a skill that I have acquired and that I will need to use to my advantage if I am to take on a part time job. It will be important for me to manage my university studies as well as my job and make sure I can work to the best of my ability in both fields. Teaching students this year in primary schools has taught me how to work with younger students in order to bring out the best in every individual. I have realised that no two students are the same and it is essential that I adapt my teaching methods to suit every pupil.
