About Steve
I don't work solely as a tutor - I'm a practicing musician, composer, and teacher. I have over 30 years of experience as a performer, and more than 20 as a guide for other musicians as a teacher and music director for musical theater productions. I love working with students who want to understand not just the what, but the why - why a composer made a particular decision, and how it can impact your understanding of the music as well as your own performance.

I bring a personalized approach to tutoring, helping each student find a path that makes sense to them. From my early music experience in elementary and secondary school ensembles and musical theater, to my degree in music theory and composition, to my adult experience as a composer and performer, I draw on a diverse collection of experiences to help my students achieve their goals.
My lesson plans could cover anything from common practice 4-part harmony to rock music or film scoring. Whatever the subject, I'll bring energy and excitement and help my students find things to be excited about within that subject.
Any musician, at any level, who wants to improve their understanding of music, is welcome in my sessions.
