About Matthias
I am a 3rd year PhD student in Chemistry at McGill University specializing in the chemistry of DNA! I also hold an honours BSc degree in Pharmacology and Therapeutics (I'm also a fan of biochemistry). As a graduate student, I engage in research everyday which involves conducting reactions, reading research articles, and TAing/tutoring. As I am constantly surrounded by chemistry, I feel I am in a very strong position to provide help to those who are in need!
Below I've included a list of all the chemistry courses I've taken (I am happy to tutor any of the concepts found below):
- High school General Chemistry / Chemistry of solutions
- Cegep General Chemistry / Chemistry of solutions
- Cegep Organic chemistry 1 & 2
- Undergraduate Organic chemistry 1, 2, and 3
- Advanced organic chemistry lab/lab techniques
- Stereochemistry
- Advanced Bio-organic chemistry
- Methods in Chemical biology
- Reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry (6-credit course = very hard!!)
- Structural organic chemistry
- Advanced Nucleic acid chemistry
Outside of chemistry, I enjoy reading (The Lord of The Rings right now!), playing hockey, and cooking!

These sessions are designed for students anywhere between high school chemistry and university graduate-level chemistry courses.
Tutoring sessions will start by briefly discussing which concept/problem(s) you are having difficulty with. Once we've identified the tough points - we'll cover the material more in-depth and then come back to the question as a team. We'll use this question as our 'template' for future questions that are similar (how to clarify what the question is asking and how to get it!). Using this system, we'll repeat the process with new questions (either from a wookbook or generated on the spot) and understand the concepts rather than memorize them.
Although chemistry may appear daunting at first, the more practice problems you do (the more 'templates' you have), the more intuitive it becomes. Chemistry is beautiful, incredibly practical (for diet, career options), and a science that is ever-changing/limitless. I find a lot of joy in teaching and I hope to help others in the field.
