About Marieka
Marieka Hambledon is an Adelaide based artist whose work often explores the human condition. Hambledon grew up in an artistic household and started painting from a young age. Hambledon began her university studies in film, before transferring into a fine art degree and then eventually studied graphic design to further her knowledge of composition and visual communication. Hambledon's award credits include being a semi-finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, a finalist in the 2019 Kennedy National Art Prize, a finalist in the 202 Bluethumb National Art Prize and a finalist in the 2021 SBS Portrait Prize. Earlier this year Hambledon was also named by Bluethumb Art Gallery as one of Australia’s most collectable artists.

I spend time with my students learning what it is that they would like to achieve during the course of their lessons so I can cater an individual approach to their tutorage. We soften start with some sketching studies before moving into colour theory, the art of observation, and painting techniques to complete a piece the student is really proud of. I can also work with artists that have basic knowledge and would like to take their skills to a more confident level.
