About Talita
Hello! I’m Talita, a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker with a passion for language and teaching. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing from Youngstown State University, where I graduated with honors. My academic background has equipped me with strong communication skills, and I’m committed to helping my students not only learn Portuguese but also connect with Brazilian culture in a meaningful way. Throughout my studies, I’ve gained valuable experience in marketing, social media, and project management, but my love for teaching has always been at the heart of what I do. Whether working with small groups or individuals, I aim to create a dynamic and personalized learning experience that is both effective and enjoyable. I developed this passion since first learning English as a second language in Brazil, and then teaching it to Brazilians back at home. In addition to my academic and professional background, I am also passionate about languages, travel, and cultural exchange. I believe that language learning should be an interactive and immersive process, which is why I incorporate aspects of Brazilian music, media, and real-life scenarios into my lessons. This approach not only helps students learn more effectively but also gives them a deeper understanding of the language in its cultural context. When I’m not teaching or studying, I enjoy exploring new places, cooking, and staying active through lifting and hiking. I’m also a reader and love discovering new books, especially those that explore the universe. My Approach as a Portuguese Tutor
As a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker, I take a holistic and interactive approach to teaching the language. My lessons are tailored to each student’s individual learning goals, whether they’re beginners, intermediate learners, or advanced speakers looking to refine their skills.
Teaching Method & Techniques:
I believe language learning should be engaging and immersive. I focus on a balanced approach that incorporates all aspects of language: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. My lessons often include:
- Conversational practice to improve fluency and pronunciation
- Grammar explanations with practical examples
- Vocabulary building through real-world contexts (e.g., cultural references, current events)
- Listening exercises using Brazilian music, videos, or podcasts to expose students to different accents and slang
- Writing tasks that help students express themselves more naturally
- I encourage my students to make mistakes, as that’s an essential part of the learning process. Creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment is key to boosting confidence.
Typical Lesson Plan:
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes and is divided into several sections:
Warm-up conversation (5–10 minutes) – I start with light conversation to gauge their progress and help them relax.
Focus area (20–30 minutes) – We focus on a specific skill (e.g., grammar, vocabulary, conversation).
Practice activities (10–15 minutes) – These may include role-playing, exercises, or reviewing homework.
Review & wrap-up (5–10 minutes) – I review key points from the lesson and set goals for the next session.
