Hi, I'm Natalia! I offer Portuguese classes, designed for students looking to develop their conversation and vocabulary skills, either for travelling to one of the ten Portuguese speaking countries around the world, and engage in informal conversations up to more formal situations such as negotiating a new house or a business venture in Portuguese.
I believe in adapting my teaching style to the specific student and their needs. In the first meeting we will establish together what the best course of action will be and what areas need to be worked on.
For me, the best way to learn is "playing", I mean, in a relaxed way, playing some games, doing some exercises, activities, projects, listening and translating music, without any pressure. I will have some materials ready for each lesson - different things and nothing heavy. Lessons need to be enjoyable if students are to learn quickly.
When it comes to teaching, I start with a bare-bones approach, covering the basics of grammar, syntax, vocabulary and oral expression, so that students can get comfortably with the lessons gained and learned, before moving on to a more advanced level, in line with what is currently taught at the standard AS/A-Level in secondary schools.
I taught children in the past but I am open to teaching anyone of any age who has an interest in Portuguese and is wanting to improve. I ensure my lessons are interactive and dynamic instead of just throwing a load of information at my student. I believe that in allowing the student to take control of their learning and supporting as well as encouraging them to push themselves to improve.

My main teaching approach is the Communicative Approach, for which I had full training during my CELTA course in 2010, focusing on practical tasks and communicative competence. In addition, I have extensive experience with blended teaching tools, such as VLE, Moodle or Skype, which I have frequently used for remote 1:1 classes.
