About Raquel
Learning a new language is hard. This is true especially when we consider the grammar, the slangs used by native speakers, the different accents depending on the region, and so on. That’s why I believe that practicing your Portuguese with a native speaker who understands what’s like to be on your shoes, is the first step in becoming fluent. Grammar is of extremely importance, but it’s only one piece of the puzzle. My goal is to get you confident enough to start taking risks by initiating conversations with native speakers. “Think in Portuguese” vs “Translate Portuguese” is what I believe in.

My goal as a tutor is to get you to “think in Portuguese” as opposed to “translate Portuguese”. I became fluent in English by facing my fear of starting conversations and accepting that mistakes were going to happen along the way, and that’s okay. Immersing yourself in the culture, listening to native speakers, and avoiding “translating” every word to your native language, is the best way to become fluen. My goal is to help you get there with confidence!
