About Jakob
I am a native Danish speaker and an experienced teacher and tutor. Like many others, I was forced to migrate to other platforms after the collapse of the FirstTutors website, where I had accrued about 15 years’ worth of reviews from happy clients (ages 14 to 84).
Aside from working as an online Danish tutor since 2013 via FirstTutors, I have taught Danish at the University of Leicester for a couple of semesters. For the past six years I have taught face‑to‑face one-to-one and classes for expats at major international companies (Deloitte, EY, and PwC) in Copenhagen for six years – with rave reviews. Hence my price tag – you get what you pay for.

Danish
As a tutor, I tailor everything to your needs. For example, one experienced student with a flair for precise grammar and unusual expressions and I worked through a complete Danish translation of Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine as a pet project. At the other end of the spectrum are absolute beginners who have either no prior knowledge or just a few Duolingo streaks – and everyone in between. There’s nothing quite like seeing a student go from hesitant greetings to confidently ordering a "smørrebrød" or "rødgrød med fløde."
I use Microsoft Teams as my primary platform. Lessons are generally 60 minutes, though I can adjust the length to suit your schedule and concentration span. I provide my own support materials and also make use of high‑quality online resources that are freely available to you outside our sessions.
My teaching approach covers everything from conversational fluency to grammar‑focused immersion. I also prepare students for official exams, including Prøve i Dansk 1, 2, 3 and Studieprøven.
