About Danica

With a background in counseling, education, and consulting, during the last 3 years, I’ve supported over 50 students in reaching their Japanese learning goals, ranging from JLPT preparation to job interviews and university applications in Japan. My students include college learners, working professionals, and heritage speakers, and I tailor each lesson to fit your needs and pace. Many of my students have gone on to achieve meaningful outcomes: • 100% of JLPT test-takers (N5–N1) passed their exam within 6–12 months of consistent study • Students have successfully landed jobs at Japanese companies and passed university entrance interviews • Beginners have built strong confidence and conversation skills in just a few months My approach is both structured and empathetic. I believe language learning thrives in a supportive, culturally aware environment. You’ll feel safe making mistakes, asking questions, and growing at your own rhythm. Whether you’re studying for an exam or learning for life, I’m here to guide you with clarity, patience, and encouragement. Outside of teaching, I enjoy going on road trips, hiking, and spending time at the beach—activities that keep me grounded and inspired. I look forward to helping you find your own rhythm and joy in learning Japanese!

About the lesson

こんにちは！I’m Danica, a bilingual Japanese tutor passionate about helping learners gain confidence and joy in their Japanese studies. Whether you’re just starting out or aiming for fluency, I tailor each lesson to fit your goals, pace, and learning style. 1. My Teaching Approach: I focus on practical, communicative Japanese, emphasizing clarity, cultural nuance, and confidence-building. My sessions combine structured grammar and vocabulary practice with engaging, real-world applications, such as conversations, short readings, and guided writing. I love using memory-friendly tips to help you remember what you learn. 2. What a Typical Lesson Looks Like: Each lesson starts with a quick review and warm-up. Then, depending on your goals, we may: • Dive into a grammar topic or JLPT prep • Practice natural conversation • Break down a short article, script, or social media post • Work on speaking and listening with pronunciation tips I also provide optional review homework and personalized notes after each class. 3. What Makes Me Different: As someone who grew up in Japan with Chinese heritage and now lives in the U.S., I deeply understand the challenges of navigating multiple languages and cultures. I create a supportive, non-judgmental space where you’re free to make mistakes and grow. My background in psychology also helps me explain concepts clearly and motivate you effectively! 4. Who These Lessons Are For: • Complete beginners to upper-intermediate learners • Students preparing for JLPT N5 to N1 • Students applying to universities in Japan • Job seekers needing Japanese for work or interviews • College students, self-learners, and heritage speakers • Anyone looking for a patient, encouraging tutor who understands both the language and the cultural context Whether you’re learning for travel, study, work, or personal growth, I’m here to support you every step of the way. Let’s make Japanese fun and meaningful together!
