About Rafael
Hola! I'm Rafa, a native Spanish speaker from Spain based in Napier, Hawke's Bay. I grew up with Spanish as a living language — spoken at home, used every day — and I love helping others discover the joy and confidence that comes with speaking it.
My experience with Spanish goes well beyond the classroom. I have worked at management level using Spanish professionally, which means I can teach not just everyday conversation but also the language of business, negotiation, and the workplace — with real-world context behind every lesson.
I have a strong background in new technologies and artificial intelligence, and I use these tools to personalize and accelerate learning. Whether you need Spanish for the tech industry, AI, or any other professional field, I can help you build the specific vocabulary and fluency your work actually demands — not just generic textbook language.
I also have a background in tikanga Māori, which informs my teaching approach. Spanish and te reo Māori share similar sounds and phonetic patterns, so learning Spanish can genuinely strengthen your ability to read and speak Māori — something I love to explore with my students here in Aotearoa.
My teaching style is gentle, patient, and always personalized. I adapt every lesson to the learner's age, level, and goals — whether that's a child having fun with their first words, an adult preparing for a trip, or a professional building industry-specific fluency. I work with complete beginners all the way through to advanced and business levels.
