About Laura
I am a native English speaker born and raised in Texas! I have a passion for the English language, and it reflects in my enthusiastic and patient approach to teaching. I love to see the growth and confidence that my students acquire! I have taught all levels of proficiency from beginners to advanced in multiple learning environments. I hold a bachelor's degree, an ESL certification, and a teaching certificate in the state of Texas; my teaching certificate is for English in grades three through high school. I began my career teaching college students English to ensure their success in their studies. At that time, I also taught foreign-born executives needing to speak and comprehend English in their corporate careers. I then taught English at the middle school level for nine years and went on to teach high school English and ESL. In addition, I have taught private and semiprivate classes in person and online for twenty years. I have been told by former students that I have a way of communicating that they understand, and they are able to learn more, and they feel more confident in their ability to grasp English. I realize it's a hard language to learn, and it takes lots of practice and determination as well as patience and understanding. My online classes incorporate listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I teach adults and children, and I also have experience in childhood literacy for kids that are native English speakers or speakers of other languages. My classes typically run from one to 1.5 hours depending on the level of the student and the preference of the student. I use many resources for my classes, and I guide my students with appropriate materials after the first session. I hope to be your next English tutor!

My teaching method is one that fosters language growth, confidence, and the desire to succeed. I have so much understanding about the hardships and frustrations of learning English. It takes time and motivation, and I offer inspiration and optimism with each lesson. Students need exposure and reinforcement in all domains in English. We will focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing in most classes depending on the proficiency level of the student. My attitude is optimistic, and I always keep in mind that learning a new language is stressful and can then make students feel apprehensive. We can work through all that. I design classes for no more than 1.5 hours. The reason for this is that once a student (adult or child) starts to feel overwhelmed and tired, they no longer retain information anyway. I hope to teach you soon!

I charge $35 per hour with a maximum time of 1.5 hours. Some circumstances can warrant 2 hours, but most students do their best with 1.5.
