About Wylie
I have been tutoring children as well as adults for over 8 years in both English and Spanish. My parents moved my sisters and I from Seattle to Mexico when I was 5 years old. At the age of 18 I returned to the U.S to attend the University of Tennessee . There I was given the opportunity to internship at a local non profit as a Spanish literacy teacher for ages ranging from 6 to 75 years old. During that time, I was able to teach several adults how to read and write in both languages, as well as lead an after school program for ESL elementary and middle school students . Most recently, I have tutored local Dallas highschool students struggling to grasp the Spanish language.

I believe that it is important to personalize teaching strategies for each student. In my experience, I have found it best to combine both a structural and a functional approach. I have met many students who have gotten through years of Spanish class by relying solely on memorization of vocabulary and the "rules" of the language. While this may be helpful to pass tests, it does not do much good in the real world. Instead, I customize my lessons in a way that will not only help the students to achieve academically, but that will also allow them to functionally grasp and practice the Spanish language.
