About Mark
I am an enthusiastic and effective researcher and communicator. I have numerous publications in the fields of social history, cultural history, labour history, the histories of race, gender and religion and have forthcoming publications in fiction, non-fiction and children’s fiction. I enjoy the construction and conveyance of ideas, whether challenging or more mainstream. Working individually or as part of a team, I can both lead and collaborate at all levels.

I am passionate about history: it tells us where we come from and how the smallest action can make a difference. It also embraces other disciplines - such as language and mathematics - in order to give historical ideas weight and substance.
Giving these ideas a solid, persuasive form is why I chose to study history - and why I want to share it.

I enjoy the construction and conveyance of ideas, whether challenging or more mainstream. Working individually or as part of a team, I can both lead and collaborate at all levels.
I have taught at some of the leading universities in the United Kingdom, and have always enjoyed positive and enthusiastic feedback from satisfied students. They enjoy the informal - yet structured - approach I take and are never afraid to be irreverent about the subject as long as they have a solid foundation upon the historiography and the source material.
I believe that history should not be dry, because it was lived by people who are versions of ourselves: their lives and experiences carry no less substance than our own - and that is what I seek to instil in those who explore history with me.
