About Nickolas
I am professional and polite, while also taking a calm and kind approach to teaching chess. I take time to listen to my students and understand their perspective. I have always played the game with integrity and have an excellent track record as a player and coach. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and two dogs and I am an avid runner. I also enjoy playing and watching sports.

I am an Expert chess player with a 2040 peak USCF rating. I have 280 USCF wins and have won or placed in many tournaments in my playing career. I was co-champion in the 2022 Chaturanga Chess Club Championship and achieved second place in the same tournament in 2023. I was also runner-up in the West Chester Chess Club Championship Tournament in 2020 and 2023 and placed 2nd in the 2024 Media Chess Club Summer Blitz tournament. Some of my strongest games include two wins against national masters and six wins against candidate masters.
I have been teaching chess in group settings for over 10 years at the West Chester Public Library Chess Club and for 3 years at the MLCCC enrichment academy. I have also been giving private lessons for the past 5 years.
My teaching approach allows for students to improve at a comfortable pace and I work with each individual student to create a plan that works for them. My students will improve in all facets of their game including openings, tactics, positional play, middlegame and the endgame. Students will improve their ratings quickly while also having fun and gaining a broader appreciation of the game.
