About Alex

I’m a first-year Mathematics student at the University of Edinburgh with a strong academic background and a passion for helping students improve their mathematical understanding.

I achieved A1 grades in National 5 Mathematics, National 5 Applications of Mathematics, Higher Mathematics and Advanced Higher Mathematics, including 100% in my National 5 Mathematics exam.

Having recently completed these qualifications myself, I’m familiar with the Scottish curriculum, SQA exam structure and the techniques needed to achieve strong results.

I have experience providing one-to-one maths tutoring and aim to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenging topics at their own pace.

My goal is to help students develop a solid understanding of mathematics, improve their problem-solving skills and approach their exams with confidence.

About the lesson

I offer one-to-one online tutoring for National 5 Mathematics and National 5 Applications of Mathematics.

Each lesson is tailored to the student’s individual needs, whether that’s improving understanding of specific topics, working through challenging questions or preparing for assessments and final exams.

Lessons are delivered via Zoom using an interactive whiteboard, allowing us to work through examples and past-paper questions together. I focus on explaining mathematical concepts clearly, encouraging students to develop their problem-solving skills and ensuring they understand the methods rather than simply memorising them.

I also offer a free one-hour introductory lesson to assess the student’s current level, identify areas for improvement and discuss their goals.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, with flexible scheduling available.

Perfect! My son has his first lesson with Alex and I could see the relief that he had someone delivering the curriculum in a manner he could comprehend.

Alex's response
The introductory lesson went well. We discussed the student’s current progress, identified areas to focus on and worked through some practice questions.

Alex has been a great tutor for our child. He’s patient, reliable, and explains things in a way that actually makes sense. Our child feels more confident and comfortable with the subject now. We’re really happy with the support he’s given and would definitely recommend him.
