About Eloise

I'm a recent graduate from University of Sheffield, with First-Class Honours in BA Linguistics and Studies in Modern Languages & Cultures. I love cats, puzzles, and colourful whiteboard pens. I know what it's like to be failed by educators, and I know what it's like to want to succeed and learn new things anyway.

I'm a tutor with 3 years' experience and a very varied teaching background, including 1:1 alternative provision for students excluded from mainstream education, private tuition outside of school hours, and facilitating creative workshops for schools and community groups (e.g. youth groups, support groups for elderly members of the community).

I have a Level 5 170-Hour TEFL and experience tutoring ESOL via a local charity, and I'm excited to expand my language teaching into Italian and German, which are the two languages my degree specialised in.

My teaching is rooted in the latest research on pedagogy, and staying professional is important to me, but it's never without a human touch.

About the lesson

My first priority is to make tutoring fit the student - something that schools or online courses don't usually have the time or resources to provide. Some students need a motivating atmosphere that matches their enthusiasm for the subject, but others need something that's calm, unstressful, confidence-building and realistic about their goals.

I tutor on Microsoft Teams, using a mix of pre-prepared materials and a virtual whiteboard. Your first lesson is all about assessing your subject knowledge and just generally getting to know each other. I need to build an idea of how you learn, and you get an idea of how I teach at the same time.

The majority of my experience is with KS2-3 students, but I'm happy to work with older learners. For much younger learners, I'm also happy to talk with parents to see if we'd be a good fit.
