About Ann
Oxbridge educated then taught for seven years at two different secondary schools across London. Taught English & History - both to GCSE, rose to Head of Department and was Literacy Coordinator across the school.
I have tutored a wide age-group and skills base of children over my five years as a private tutor including primary, SATs, 11+ Entrance Exams, GCSE and A-Level and students who have attended both state and independent schools.
I am proud to have achieved strong results with my tutees including:
- An English student improving from a D to A grade within 6 months of tutoring
- An English independent school student improving from a C to A* grade within 4.5 months
- A History GCSE student improving from a Level 5 to a Level 8 within 6 months
- A Year 6 SATs student improving from a Level 4 to Level 6

My methodology is to be fun and creative, whilst being exam and results focused. I try to use books and topics of interest to students as stimuli for our sessions and I will use puzzles, card-sorts, video clips, reading of relevant articles, flash cards and games as appropriate for the age-level, learning style of students.
I also believe marking and teaching of exam techniques are also very important so I will ensure students know *exactly how to answer exam questions, the time needed for each question in the exam and the approach required for each.
My first one / two sessions will often begin with some kind of assessment, alongside trying to establish a relationship with the child and understanding their interests. I then include regular assessments and set regular homework (as per guidance with parents). The last 5 min of each session, I feedback on progress with parents and students, explaining homework and the topic that will be covered in the next session.
