About Calla
Hi, my name is Calla, and I'm a recent Musicology graduate of the University of Oxford, having earned a First with Distinction overall. I would like to help others get the chance to experience the wonderful education that Oxford has to offer. The Oxbridge interview season is coming up in October, and having some extra preparation for those all important interviews is invaluable. I am also well-equipped to offer help with A level Music and English Literature courses.
I am passionate about music education, and I have been teaching flute and piano for four years, after setting up a music teaching business in Manchester. The most important thing is that music-making should be exciting and compelling. I think the best way to achieve that is to mix fun playing with foundational work on tone, time, phrasing and line. Repertoire, scales and studies should be built on solid foundations of technique; theory and performance should advance together. It is also entirely possible (believe me!) to make sight reading enjoyable. Really.
As a vibrant flautist and pianist with teaching experience as well as an extensive performance track record, I can help you improve your playing, prepare for performances and exams, whatever your starting point.
I offer flute and piano lessons up to grade eight and theory lessons up to grade five.
We will begin by talking through your objectives, to understand what you want to gain from your lessons. To start, lessons will be a mixture of learning tone production, fundamental technique and musical understanding. Ensuring that the basic aspects of flute or piano playing are solid is central to my teaching.
