I give lessons to students at all levels, from absolute beginner through to more advanced grades. I have experience in all different styles of teaching, but personally promote the Suzuki method for children and beginners. This encourages developing an ability to play by ear, focusing on memorisation and musicality rather than sight-reading. However, I am keen to work with the pupil to understand what they want to achieve out of learning the piano, whether that be playing popular music by ear, developing a comprehensive understanding of music theory, or progressing through the traditional grades.
I am a pianist currently studying in London. I obtained a First Class Honours in music from King's College London, and a Masters in Music from St Catherine's College, Oxford. I have experience teaching privately at all levels and have performed regularly throughout my studies. I am also a composer and have conducted my own compositions with full scale orchestras and choirs. With a comprehensive musical background, I am able to teach piano in a way which facilitates a more rounded understanding of music theory.
For online lessons, you will need to have a piano at home!
Mark has been my piano teacher on and off for 4 years. In that time I have improved immeasurably, playing both classically and a little bit of Jazz! Lessons are engaging and insightful, and Mark is always positive and constructive with feedback. Can't recommend enough!
