About Lucy
Hi! My name is Lucy and I have recently graduated from the University of Oxford with a First, studying English literature. At school, I achieved A*s in my GCSEs and A levels, so have a good grasp of how the exam system works and different approaches to revision. Previously I have tutored for A level English coursework, Shakespeare texts, entrance exams, and for university admissions for Oxbridge, such as ELAT prep, writing the personal statement and interview. Students have gone on with high rates of success, which is always so gratifying to see. English Literature and languages have always been passions of mine and I am excited to share this other students. I am a hard-working, cheerful and friendly individual, and look forward to hearing from you!

My sessions will always be tailored to the student's needs. The first session will focus on getting to know each other, identifying the weaknesses and devising a structured plan for progress in the timescale the student requires. Following sessions will focus mostly on past-paper questions, which should not be intimidating at all - I will do my best to guide them, and we will go through examiner reports and commentary to understand the exam board's expectations. Equally, however, this will not be a passive process for the tutee! It is most helpful for a student to learn if they can take me through a question or explain the content to me themselves. Sessions can centre around how to analyse a text closely, sample answers, the key to writing an effective essay that ticks off assessment objectives, and above all - essay practice - which should make the final exam seem like sitting down to do a past paper. This methodology is all flexible, and students should always feel comfortable to use the session to maximise their own progress - whether this is tackling some revision or a homework task.
