About Patrick
I am an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher of History, Music and English, with an excellent academic record and a wide field of interests which can be tailored to many different academic priorities.
I teach with a focus most of all on what students need to get out of their time in lessons, so that they can go away and use the knowledge and the methods to excel themselves. Most of all, I work to enable students to harness academic pressure and targets, so that they feel they are in control of what they want to achieve, and are fully aware of how to do it.
I also have a focus on essay writing, as I am a published journalist in reviews and essays for The Big Issue, and have edited many editions of nineteenth-century fiction for an American publisher.

My lessons focus on the needs of the tutee above all, whether that's in explaining uncertain topics, filling in gaps of knowledge, or in making sure the ground is being laid for pupils to feel confident to do more work themselves. I teach:
GCSE students in History, English Language and Literature and Music.
A-levels (and equivalents) in History, English Literature and Music.
With an excellent academic record at A-level (A*, A*, A*, A) in broad and challenging subjects, I focus not only on high-achieving students who are aiming for the top, but - given the perspective gained by university study - am able to give clear and important advice to those who are struggling. History and the humanities are not just about gaining knowledge, but are about ways of thinking and means of putting that knowledge onto paper. Those are what I am best at, and what I teach at any ages above 11.
My lessons are usually an hour, but can flexible.
