I aim to create a tailored lesson experience for each of my students. While I generally teach from the ABRSM syllabus, I find it very useful and enjoyable to give pieces from across multiple genres depending on the individual student’s interests, for example, Pop, Jazz or Film Music.
Edinburgh born Violinist Alexander Casson has gained considerable experience in recent years as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. After graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2016, he received full scholarship for a two year Artist’s Diploma at Michigan State University, where he studied with Dr Walter Verdehr (The Verdehr Trio). While in Michigan, he performed regularly in chamber projects with faculty and served as concertmaster of the University’s Symphony, Opera and Contemporary Orchestras on several occasions.
In 2020 Alexander received his Masters in Violin Performance from the Royal Academy of Music, where he was taught by Jack Liebeck.
Highlights during Alexander’s studies have included being awarded the Bridgewood and Nietzert string quartet prize (2015) and learning from international artists such as the Emerson String Quartet, Brooklyn Rider String Quartet, Elias String Quartet and the Fidelio Piano Trio. In 2019 he made his concerto debut, performing Mozart’s 5th concerto at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh with the Waverley consort. He has since been invited back to perform the other Mozart concertos over the orchestra’s season.

Perfect! Alex met me right at my level. I felt super comfortable making mistakes and just getting back into making noise. Really excited to work toward the goals we've set for my playing.
Great first lesson! Really looking forward to continuing working!
If you are looking for an excellent violin teacher, look no further! You have found your teacher.
I have known Alexander as a teacher for 2 years now. He is reliable, patient and very professional. He is also kind and thoughtful with children, and always holds their attention.
I have seen Alexander teach and I know it brings him joy. He loves to share his knowledge and passes on the joy of music making to them. His students are a priority to him and he dedicates his time and full attention to them.
Alexander has been teaching our son for nearly two years and in that time fantastic progress has been made. Our son is already working towards his ABRSM Grade 2. Alexander is patient, gives positive feedback and has formed a really strong teacher/pupil relationship with our son and this has really helped his confidence with playing as well as his individual motivation to practise. We would highly recommend Alexander to anyone considering violin lessons. He is a fantastic teacher.
The best thing about Alex as a tutor is his endless amount of patience. I have worked with him for some time on professional music portfolio style projects and his ability to carefully identify solutions in a constructive and efficient manor makes him an ideal tutor. He effortlessly demonstrates mastery in effective communications and this, I feel is the keystone of any teacher.
I could not recommend a better tutor. Thanks Alex for your endless help, support ans dedication.
My 10-year-old son has been Alexander's pupil for over two years now, and what progress my son has made! Alexander is a brilliant violinist, very passionate about music and shares this passion with his students. Alexander's lessons really inspired my son, and now he is continuously begging for more challenging pieces and has become a very keen young musician. In his words: "I'll never stop having lessons with Alex".
Alexander has helped him develop both technically and musically, grow his confidence and overcome stage fright. Alex is endlessly patient, thorough, inspiring, and the lessons are always enjoyable. He's been doing a fantastic job preparing my son for ABRSM grades, but also giving him a lot of extras: pieces from films my son loves, challenging violin studies, his first violin concerto, etc. I would strongly recommend him to anybody who is looking for an inspiring violin teacher.
